Advanced Parallel Sysplex Operations and Recovery Workshop
This course describes advanced operator actions to implement new rules, coupling objects, structures and operational improvements related to sysplex. It diagnoses problems and demonstrates recovery techniques in these areas. These include:
Issues

Using the classic HMC user interface or tree, creating HMC groups

Loading profiles and providing tips and recommendations for using the HMC

Initialize sysplex system images and identify problems reported via system consoles and HMCs

Identifying sysplex components, defining differences in resource and data sharing with respect to recovery options, discussing different configurations and duplexing the system

Execute related display commands to identify sysplex status and recovery actions for IPL problems during system activation

Manage pair data sets, format CDS, define rules, and run and verify that they work as expected

Implement configurations that support GRS STAR, JES checkpoint and ECS using structures in CF

Identify pair data set failures, CF failures and CF structures

Identify pending policy change conditions and correct as necessary

Removal of CF from sysplex, as in the case of required CF maintenance

Identifying and correcting problems during the structural rebuilding process, such as insufficient storage space in the CF

Adding a new System from CF to sysplex dynamically using dynamic activation of the entire sysplex with hardware configuration definition (HCD) function

Perform recovery procedures with and without SFM rules

- Experience with HMC and Parallel Sysplex environment
- attendance at previous sysplex classes. Any of the following Parallel Sysplex courses will provide you with the skills you need: Parallel Sysplex Operations and Recovery (MV900) (H4057), Parallel Sysplex Planning and Implementation for z/OS (MV450), (H3995), (H3396), Parallel Sysplex Implementation Workshop (ES420) or (ES73).

- Exercise 5: Using commands to determine sysplex status

- Unit 2: Sysplex initialization, CDS use and recovery
- Exercise 5: Using commands to determine sysplex status (continued)
- Exercise 6: Activation of ECS and dynamic GRS STAR
- Exercise 7: Reconfiguring JES2
- Exercise 8: CDS incompatibility during plex activation
Day 3
- Unit 3: CF management, structures, rules and recovery
- Exercise 9: Recorder
- Exercise 10: CFRM change waiting conditions and recovery options for FP calls
- Exercise 11: VTAM and ISTGENERIC demonstration
- Exercise 12: Managing coupling objects
Day 4
- Unit 4: Dynamic implementation of CF, SFM and ARM.
