Basic z/OS Tuning Using the Workload Manager

  • Describing advanced z/OS environments that use Intelligent Resource Director (IRD), HyperDispatch, z/OSMF Workload Management and I/O Priority Manager

This is an intermediate course for z/OS developers, z/OS performance analysts and z/OS performance administrators who are new to the adventure of managing the performance of their z/OS system.
**Note**: The ES54 is designed for people who are new to WLM and the z/OS performance area.

Prerequisites

  • Understand the basic operation of MVS and z/OS, such as task flow through JES, task scheduling paging, swapping, dispatching control and input/output scheduling
  • Have a basic understanding of the purpose of the Workload Manager function in system load management
  • Be familiar with using TSO and ISPF to manage data sets and run batch jobs
