from OS Diagnostic Workshop Introductory level
This course covers an overview of z/OS operating system concepts, including but not limited to dispatching, interrupt handling, storage resource management and cross-memory capabilities. It also introduces the IPCS dump analysis tool, which is used to extract data from SVC dumps, and reviews key assembler concepts used in diagnosing z/OS problems. Using this foundation, debugging techniques such as interpreting SVCs and register contents, performing program check analysis, reading the system trace table and extracting diagnostic task and history details are explored, each with accompanying labs that provide practical application and reinforcement of these concepts and techniques.
