DFSMS Implementation

This course provides the skills required to plan and implement a Data Facility Storage Management Subsystem (DFSMS). A step-by-step implementation strategy emphasizing coexistence issues is reinforced through hands-on labs. In the hands-on labs, students will create structures as well as code ACS procedures. This milestone approach includes managing temporary and permanent data sets. The course also discusses the use of features provided by DFSMS as installations evolve to a DFSMS environment.

Issues

Create DFSMS configurations to automatically enforce installation storage management policies
Convert service level requirements into appropriate parameters for data class, storage class, management class and storage groups
Creating and testing an automatic class selection (ACS) procedure
Converting volumes and moving data to system-managed volumes using data object data set services (DFSMSdss)
Determine the appropriate management class and storage group parameters for processing data sets managed by the system through DFSMShsm
Establish procedures to control, manage and recover the storage management subsystem using ISMF and operator commands
Development of the DFSMS implementation plan
